Roxie January 2008 Pet of the Month

Roxie is a 14 year old female Pomeranian that was presented to the Animal Medical Center for vomiting and acting depressed. Radiographs showed that her uterus was increased in size and bloodwork showed that her white blood cell count was high indicative of an infection. Roxie was admitted to the hospital for an exploratory surgery due to high suspicions of a pyometra. While Roxie was under anesthesia she had four teeth extracted due to her grade four periodontal disease and the diagnosis of a pyometra was confirmed.
 Pictured is the enlarged uterus.
This is an example of the difference between a normal and a pus filled uterus.
